Parkinson’s disease dementia
Parkinson’s disease dementia is dementia that appears in the setting of established Parkinson’s disease. Rivastigmine has an FDA indication for this use and is a symptom treatment, not disease-modifying.
Overview
When dementia develops after established Parkinson’s disease, clinicians may diagnose Parkinson’s disease dementia. Overlap with dementia with Lewy bodies is biological. Rivastigmine is labeled in the US for mild-to-moderate dementia associated with Parkinson’s disease. Movement, sleep, hallucinations, and blood-pressure changes still shape the care plan.
One section per setting: the options named, what each is for, the trials behind them, the recorded trade-offs and the questions to ask.
Rivastigmine may be considered. Coordinate with the movement-disorder plan and avoid harmful antipsychotics where possible.

Cognitive symptoms
- For my situation (cognitive symptoms), which of the standard options do you recommend and why? Why: Guideline options include: Rivastigmine may be considered. Coordinate with the movement-disorder plan and avoid harmful antipsychotics where possible.

Any stage
- Would a second opinion at a memory clinic or specialist centre change anything, and can you help arrange it?Why: Complex or high-stakes decisions benefit from a centre that sees many similar patients.
